Inter-Agency Process

After Receiving Approval

Getting an approval is only the start of the compliance process. Many companies have gotten into more trouble with violations after receiving their approval — often times more trouble than if they had not gotten an approval at all.

Look at what has been returned to you, verify the information is correct — check the expiration dates — DTC has been known to make mistakes, make sure you check that your expected four-year approval is actually good for four years and someone did not put a date that makes it valid for only a month — these things actually do happen.

Check any attachments you sent in and make sure that the licensing officer did not hand mark any of your pages — licensing officers frequently make handwritten changes that you are required to adhere to — such as changing a USML category or removing a party from your application.

Confirm that the scope of your application is still valid — if not, work with your export expert to remedy that situation as quickly as possible.
