Significant Military Equipment

A number of TigerSwan products are SME (e.g., drones, weapon fire control systems, and equipment incorporating focal plane arrays). As an employee or IC of TigerSwan you must be familiar with the U.S. Government controls set on the equipment you may handle on a daily basis. Items that are SME are more closely controlled that other USML items and can cause more damage to National Security if there is a breach in the system. It is your responsibility to ensure that SME equipment is protected and the information about it is not shared without prior authorization from the Department of State.

No exports or transfers involving SME can be made until a DSP-83 is signed and submitted to the State Department. A DSP-83 is a non-transfer and use certificate and states a Foreign Party will not transfer or sell any items that are SME without the prior approval of the U.S. Stated Department. Foreign companies, military services and governments may be required to sign the DSP-83.

The determination as to whether something is SME or not is designated in the ITAR. Equipment is broken down into categories on a list called the United States Munitions List (USML). Items are categorized within the USML and further broken down into full equipment, parts and components, accessories, and technical data associated with the article. The USML will have an asterisk (*) next to items that are considered SME by the U.S. Government.
