Standard Licensing

Licensing Process
Project Details

Your compliance professional needs to understand all the details of your contract. Failing to provide all the information to that professional can cause delays in approvals or violations of the law if the authorizations obtained do not cover the full scope of your contract. There are a multitude of documents required to support an export application.

For example, you must have a purchase order, letter of intent or contract in order to export hardware or defense articles — your compliance professional will know all the required documentation. However you must provide everything to them in order for them to fully understand the project and review the services, equipment, or materials that are being offered under your contract to determine what jurisdiction has control (State or Commerce) and what authorizations are required — if you will recall the Department of State has multiple types of authorizations and it is extremely important that your organization obtain the correct authorization and use it properly.

Your compliance professional will need to know the who, what, why, when, and where for each project as early in the process as possible. They may ask a lot of questions that seem like "none of their business" but their ultimate goal is to properly license your project and avoid non-compliance or violations.
